Leonardo Marino is a sicilian composer, based in Milano. His formation comprehends both classical and jazz music experiences. He studied composition in Milano with Alessandro Solbiati and in Genève with Michael Jarrell. His music has been played and programmed by several orchestras and ensembles, (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, OSE! Orchestra, Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, Divertimento Ensemble, Mdi Ensemble, Ukho Ensemble, Ensemble Prometeo, Ensemble Contrechamps, IEMA, etc.), conductors, (Clement Power, Marco Angius, Luigi Gaggero, Gregory Vajda, Daniel Kawka, Lukas Vis, Filippo Perocco, Holly Hyun Choe, Joanna Natalia Slusarczyk, Jaume Santonja etc.) and soloists (Luca Quintavalle, Melanie Rothman, Dyna Pisarenko, Goska Isphording, Alfonso Alberti, Mariagrazia Bellocchio, Rachel Koblyakov, Viktor Rekalo, Tim Maas, Micheal Taylor, Laura Catrani, etc.).
His chamber opera “APNEA” was premieried at the “61esimo Festival di Musica Contemporanea della Biennale di Venezia” in 2017.
He has been chosen as one of the two mentored composers of the Mentoring Programme 2020, promoted by the Péter Eötvös Foundation.
His second Opera, “Huit Minutes - Nous y étions presque”, on a libretto by Pablo Jakob Montefusco, has been performed in September 2021in Geneva under the musical direction of Clement Power. It was a production of Operalab.ch (a platform created by the Grand Théâtre de Genève, la Comédie de Genève, and the schools of high specialization of the Suisse Romande).
In September 2022, he won the Composition Prize for chamber music at International Competition George Enescu.
He won the first prize at the XXIX edition of the “Concorso Internazionale di Composizione 2 agosto”.
His pieces have been performed in different concert seasons and he has received commissions from various institutions such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Traiettorie, the Royal Academy of Music of London, the WDR in Cologne etc.
He is currently teaching Harmony and Analysis at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Como.
His music is published by SZ Sugar.

L’opera è stata prodotta da Operalab.ch, una piattaforma creata dal Grand Théâtre de Genève, la Comédie de Genève e le scuole di alta specializzazione della Suisse Romande.
I suoi brani sono stati eseguiti in diverse stagioni concertistiche e ha ricevuto commissioni da varie istituzioni quali Ensemble Intercontemporain, Traiettorie, la Royal Academy of Music di Londra, la WDR di Colonia etc.
Nel settembre 2022, ha vinto il Premio di Composizione, categoria musica da camera, all’International Competition George Enescu.
Ha vinto il primo premio alla XXIX edizione del “Concorso Internazionale di Composizione 2 Agosto”.
È attualmente docente di Teoria dell’armonia e analisi presso il Conservatorio G. Verdi di Como.
